What You Doing On Saturday The 5th Of Nov?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t take my kids on enough play dates.  Although, let’s be honest – it’s not really all about the kids – it’s about the moms meeting together to catch up on life and swopping stories about the funny things our kids did that week or how little we’re sleeping.  What I value most about these times is chatting to other moms who are going through or have been through the things that I am currently dealing with and how they dealt with it.  It is encouraging to know that I am not alone and that there are other people that have gone through similar struggles and have come out at the other end alive and a better parent.

When I first had Kyla, I committed myself to reading a wealth of books to make sure that I was going to be the best mom that I could be.  At that time I didn’t really have any friends who had kids or were going through what I was, so I relied on books.  While they were helpful, they gave the misguided impression that everything will work exactly as they planned out in their daily schedules.  When (inevitably) my baby didn’t go by the book I thought I was doing something wrong.  Only once I had developed relationships with older, more experienced moms, did I realise that I wasn’t doing anything wrong except putting too much pressure on myself.

So basically what I am getting at is: often as new moms we might not know anyone going through the same struggles that we are, or we don’t have anyone to really talk to about it (as I did).  A group of us have realised that this is the challenge faced by most (if not all) new moms.  And, what better way to fix it than to meet together with moms who can relate and just chat over some tea while our kids make friends too.

If you are free on Saturday the 5th of November at 10.30am we will be meeting for just an hour to chat and for the munchkins to do a craft.  It would be really awesome if you could join us.  If you’re interested or if you have any questions, please let me know.

There is also a Facebook event if you want to join and keep up with all the details and maybe invite your friends too.  The link is http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=207462449326271
