Tattoo’ed Women – What Do You Have To Say?

I follow a vastly different array of blogs, one of which is Sometimes Sweet which I really enjoy for a number of reasons.  One of which is that I can get a glimpse into the life of a Mom who is quite heavily tattoo’ed.  I am definitely not considered a heavily tattoo’ed person – with only 2 discreet tats, but this is mostly because of my line of work and if I was a stay at home mom or more in the arty line of things I would totally get a few more.

Danielle from Sometimes Sweet saw a rather demeaning and degrading post by a woman who is clearly very against tattooing.  So before you read Danielle’s post, please check out the context of it by reading the original article – Why Put A Bumper Sticker On A Ferrari? (I think Kim Kardashian is the origin of this saying, don’t ask me how I know this)

Now, go and read Danielle’s blog post as a direct reply back to the article author – Why Yes, I Will Put A Bumper Sticker On This Ferrari: An Open Letter To Lisa Khoury.

I know that here at 3 2 1 we have a vastly different group of readers, so I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Aaaaaaang Go!

oh I love Danielle!! She’s awesome, and her post/letter really hit the nail on the head. While I do not yet have a tattoo and can see where people come from in saying its better not to get them, I think its downright ignorant to call tattoo’ed people “unclassy”. Heck, some of the classiest people I know have tattoos… including my best friend ;), my pastor’s wife, and a few really intelligent arty people I know. So Lisa Khoury is probably going to feel unbelievably stupid in a few weeks/years… for having such a small-minded opinion. That’s all… oh and if someone wants to help me pay for my tat, I’m there 😉

wow wow and WOW. I almost envy the sheltered existence that Lisa has obviously led. How easy this crazy little thing called life must be, when absolutely everything is so black and white. I have to say, i did have fun reading some of the 600+ comments underneath her post! Insanely well written response from Danielle – i will follow her blog now – thanks Cindy! x

The thought that was going through my mind while reading Lisa’s article was “everything you are saying is so materialistic”. She mentioned “If you want to insert ink into your skin as a symbol for something greater than yourself, then maybe you are proving a point to yourself or the rest of the world.” This statement shows that Lisa’s aim in life is to make other people happy by focusing on her appearance. This is such a sad way to look at life and to go through life. I hope Danielle’s blog post gives Lisa a bit of a wake-up call, and I hope she takes it the right way and doesn’t see it as an attack. Thanks for the links Cindy.

Danielle was being wrong on the internet (cf. http://xkcd.com/386/), so I responded:

“To be fair, the woman in the picture that leads your article appears to have a ridiculously ugly tattoo. I find that a pity, but I am trying to love her for her mind.

Also, you’re over-stressing the weak elements of whatshername’s post, hammering them hyperbolically, and giving no credit to the good things that she was attempting to say. It’s a post about physical beauty. So she doesn’t give credit to the ‘beauty’ of intelligence. It’s hardly relevant.

You played well to your crowd of apparently adoring followers, but you were hardly displaying the beauty of kindness up there.”

I did apologise then for insulting her tattoo. Shouldn’t have done that… Misguided joke.

I didn’t realise it was her in the pic, so now my comment just looks like I’m being mean, which wasn’t my intention…
