Last Friday the girls had a “What do you want to be when you grow up” day at school. Because I’m the best and most organised parent ever, I asked them on Thursday afternoon what they wanted to be when they grew up…
Riya kind of looked at me with a blank stare, so I volunteered some choices, “How about drawing buildings like Daddy does? No? OK, what about a ballerina? No? OK, um, maybe a teacher?” “YES!” Great! Luckily we had success before I ran out of things to suggest, because actually that was the last thing I could think of. Good thing I’m not a teacher.
Then it was Kyla’s turn. I began casually, because if you make a big deal about anything then she no longer wants to do it. “So Kyla, what do you want to be when you grow up? A ballerina?”… I said ballerina because I might have mentioned how obsessed she is with it before, over here. She stares at me and without missing a beat she says, “Bacon”. Okaaaay, so my child wants to be bacon when she grows up. A worthy aspiration (because let’s face it, bacon is flipping delicious) but a little bit impractical and slightly impossible. So I asked, “What exactly does this bacon do?” Her response, “Makes cakes Mommy!” Aaaaah, I get it she wants to be a baker, not bacon!
To further my awesome parentness, I thought about what they would wear but only got it out in the morning. So the outfits are not the amazing versions they probably could have been, but hey. It is what it is.
Thankfully their day seemed to go well, even though their friends life aspirations were to be princesses at least they didn’t mind going like they did… While we were driving home I was trying to get the low down on their day and then Kyla says, “Daddy draw buildings Mommy?”
Me: “Yes Bubs, well done. That’s exactly what Daddy does.”
Kyla: “Mommy what you do all day at work?”
Me, thinking hard about how to explain ‘insurance’ to a toddler: “I uh, when someone’s building breaks I give them a new one. Or if someone has an accident with their car I get it fixed for them.”
Kyla, obviously not impressed: “You do this all day Mommy? Nothing else?”
Clearly she will not be following suite into insurance…

If I had my way I’d eat her right up!
Adorable! I am an architect too, just liek their dad
We actually have quite a bit in common, the architecture – 3 kids. Quite cool how the interwebs can bring people together!
Very true!
