I’ve often wondered if going to therapy would help me or if they would listen to just one retelling of an afternoon in the life of me and immediately admit me to a padded room with no windows and a bright flickering light.

Last week was rough.  The kids can obviously tell that we are quite stressed about the move and although I am trying desperately to cover it up, I can tell that they are soaking up all my angst and it’s resulting in all of us going a bit crazy.  Everyone is short tempered and easily upset – most of all me.

To give you an example, every single time we got into the car last week at least one of the kids cried all the way to the destination point.  Reasons for these wonderful outbursts ranged from missing Ga, to having to wear boots in the rain, to not being able to sit in Knox’s seat (because he WAS IN IT), to insisting that Ga didn’t hug them goodbye when I literally watched her do it.  By the time we drove home on Friday with Kyla crying loudly and continuously for absolutely nothing and after many threats of naughty chairs and never seeing the outside world ever again, I considered driving into a wall just to give us all a real reason to cry.  I really did think about it.  (Don’t worry, I wouldn’t ever do that, because I like totally need that car and stuff.)

Before you think that you need to call up an intervention and remove my children from my care, I’m here to tell you that I have a solution to the hard seasons of Motherhood.  Let me blow your mind in 10 easy steps:

  1. Grab your phone.
  2. Make a date with your bestest girl friends .
  3. Rock up at the destination that should be a restaurant (because cleaning up is not part of the deal).
  4. Warn other patrons in the area that they should run for their lives – these conversations are going to be loud, disturbing and rather graphic.
  5. Put your phones on silent – worrying about upset babies is Daddies job tonight.
  6. Order a bottle of wine and yummy food.
  7. Chat and laugh until your tummy hurts.
  8. Indulge in a massive piece of chocolate something – because that is proven to be the second best therapy around.
  9. Ignore the time – especially the waiters turning off lights and showing signs of wanting to leave.
  10. Take a photo to remember the awesomeness (even if the waiter is experiencing shell-shocked type tendencies after hearing about every gory birth story known to man – resulting in a blurry picture)!
