Yo yo yo.
I wasn’t really planning on doing a review of the year, but after reading so many of my favourite bloggers reviews, it made me feel a bit nostalgic and so I felt like taking a look at we got up to this year.
In fact, it’s probably good that I have these organised prompts, if I had to have a go at it on my own I would probably end up rambling forever with no real purpose, especially since so much has happened this year but I can’t even remember it all.
1. What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?
This is a hard one, the most exciting thing that I’ve done was go to a Mothers Day concert (my very first ever) and the most mentally, emotionally and physically challenging was moving from the house I’d lived in for 25 years to our new forever home with 3 kids, 2 dogs and 2 parents.
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t really do resolutions, but I my “motto” or general idea for the year was to be more positive. Is it bad to say that I am almost shocked that it worked? Keeping things positive and not focusing on all the bad and negative stuff in my life has definitely helped me to feel happier about where I’m at and what we have in life. Sweating the small stuff almost doesn’t happen anymore.
3. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve?
We are parents, what do you think we’re doing? Although, even if we weren’t parents I’m pretty sure that we would still be spending it with our besties. This year (as with last year, and the year before that) we will be having a super chilled out supper and relaxed evening.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully not, we are blessed to be able to go into another year with all of our close family and friends.
5. What countries did you visit?
Is it bad manners to openly laugh at this question? I have no plans to travel abroad until I can plop my kids in their seats on the plane and safely leave them to turn into a zombie in front of the in flight movies. I have no desire to subject myself (or any of the other passengers) to that, or the mad, self medicated woman I would have to become to get through it.
6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
Is self esteem or self confidence? Either way – just being able to feel good about myself and my abilities would be fantastic. The very first step is getting my skin under control. I’m living in fear of something happening to my make up and leave me having to go out into public without it, just thinking about it makes me feel sick.
7. What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
1 October – the day we moved into our new house. New possibilities and new responsibilities, really difficult but totally worth it.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
The fact that I made it to the end. No, really.
But anyway, a real achievement would be that we are now living in an area that we never thought that we would be able to get into, at least not for a long while. Very grateful and thankful.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I can’t think of anything serious, which is pretty good I guess – unless you count my daughter swearing of course.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No, only Knox had a bit of a rough time at the beginning of the year – it wasn’t too serious so we’ve been pretty lucky.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Jeepers I sound like I can’t talk about anything else, but seriously buying the house really took everything out of me.
12. Where did most of your money go?
My kids, that’s for sure. And, (I’ll try and stop now) the house.
13. What song will always remind you of 2013?
There’s a few I guess, Good Girl stands out but there are a few others that I juts can’t think of.
14. What do you wish you’d done more of?
I’m kind of happy with how the year turned out, but more time with family, friends and Seth can never hurt. (And maybe a smidge more alone time and definitely more girls nights!)
15. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Stress. About everything.
16. What were your favourite TV shows?
Dexter, Elementary, Breaking Bad, Revenge, Suits, New Girl.
17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Sherbs, I don’t think I hate anyone. Unless you count nameless pedophiles that I would happily beat into unconsciousness (with their own bits that I have cut off). I guess that explains why I enjoy Dexter.
18. What was the best book you read?
I’m embarrassed to say that I can’t remember reading one book this year. Disgusting I know. But I have 3 kids and I prefer watching series, blogging and reading blogs in the evenings.
19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
20. What was your favourite film of this year?
We’ve been out to a couple of movies, but nothing stands out. Looking forward to the new 300 movie that’s apparently coming out soon.
21. What did you do on your birthday
Um… This post kind of says it all.
22. What kept you sane?
Definitely Seth – my sounding board for anything and everything. He is there for me for everything, my real partner. Without him I don’t know if I would ever cope. Also, my Mom and in laws have been so amazing supportive in every way.
23. Who did you miss?
Mia and Ben. Always. Having them back for such short periods makes it clear how much we miss them when they are gone.
24. Who was the best new person you met?
Does it count if we met on the internet? In that case, all the cool new bloggy people that I have connected with over various social platforms.
25. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013:
Time passes so quickly, so be there.
