Welcome back to another installment in our series – I’m A Mom With Tattoos. In case you have missed the last couple, don’t forget to check them out here.
This post is “late” because instead of blogging all night, I went out on a date night with Seth. So basically what I am saying is, I won the internet and I am not a slave to my blog. Well mostly.
Today we are meeting Nicole who just happens to have gotten her first tattoo at 13 and not stopped since. If I could steal some off of her gorgeous body I totally would – that swallow!
Your name and blog deets: Nicole Sweet and my blog is Pretty in Pink. I hardly blog but this will change I promise.
Your age: 28
Your Occupation: Junior Brand Manager at Spree (Online fashion and lifestyle store)
Tell us about your family: I have 2 awesome kids, Caleb has just turned 6 and he loves technology and Lego. At the moment he’s into everything Star Wars and Dinosaurs. So basically he’s an all round nerd (which he gets from his dad). Then there’s my littlest Sadie, who is 3. She’s an eternally happy little girl and loves to dance and make people laugh. Right now she’s into One Direction, Taylor Swift and Frozen. She’s got such a wicked sense of humour and her very own sense of style. (which I like to think she gets this from her mom) haha!
If you work, tell us a bit more about your working environment – are you regularly in contact with new “clients/public”. I work for an online fashion and lifestyle store, I manage our 15 magazine partners which is quite stressful, and anyone who’s ever worked in magazine’s will know what I’m talking about. But I have an amazing team and even though most days we have tight deadlines and huge targets to make, we laugh and joke and this makes the day enjoyable (even if I’m about to ugly cry because of an unrealistic deadline of some sort). I regularly meet with magazine Editors, Fashion, Digital & Beauty Editors to discuss and plan new projects and campaigns.
• Tell us a bit about your tattoo’s, what they are, why you have them, where they are located
I have 8 tattoos. I don’t have any stories behind my tattoos. I love the history and art of tattooing and that’s why I get them.
The word hope on my right index finger – my husband’s name is Themba which means hope.
An anchor on my right outer wrist
My son’s name (Caleb) on my right forearm.
My daughter’s name (Sadie Lila) on the top of my right shoulder
A full colour rose on the back of my upper right arm.
A full colour butterfly on my back
A black and grey sailor Jerry inspired swallow on my left forearm.
A tiny heart under my collar bone
How old were you when you got your first tattoo? I got my first tattoo on my 13th birthday. Long story short, my aunt always wanted to get a tattoo and was too scared to go alone. So of course without thinking of the consequences I decided that getting a tattoo at 13 was a good idea.
Which tattoo is your favourite and why? I have 2 favourites. My full colour rose and my swallow. My rose is so beautiful and realistic looking. My swallow I got at this year’s tattoo-a-thon. All the money rasied on this day is donated to CHOC for kids cancer research. I was so happy to be able to contibute to that and be a part of such an amazing initiative.
Do you plan on getting more? I want to get one more tattoo on my thigh. I’m still playing with the concept of the design but I know I want it to be a tradional style girl head tattoo.
How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? adversity because of them? My husband loves my tattoos (he has a few of his own) and my kids are intrigued by them, when they actually notice I have them. I think they’re so used to them that it’s not a big deal to them at all. My parents and grandparents don’t make a big fuss about my tattoos because I was always that teenager that was coming home with weird piercings and crazy hair colours, haha!
What is the general reaction that “the Public” have towards your tattoos? Have you run into any negativity or adversity because of them? The only negativity I’ve received about my tattoos is when people ask me why I have so many. People also think it’s weird that I have no meanings behind my tattoos, that I actually just get tattoos because I like tattoos. Other than that I think the placement of my tattoos make them quite discreet so many people don’t even notice them at first.
Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed? Get tattooed at a reputable shop, do some research on your artist and look at their portfolio of work before getting tatted. Most importantly, good tattoos are not cheap!!
