Welcome back to another installment in our new series – I’m A Mom With Tattoos. In case you have missed the last couple, don’t forget to check them out here.
Yesterday was the first time that we have experienced having a rather sick and miserable birthday person in our family. Knox was (and still is) having fevers and now coughing up a storm. Every now and then, being impossible and naughty is his present back to us. And with the party tomorrow (and only half the things sorted out), I may be on the tipping point of losing my mind.
Anyway, we have another lovely lady to interview today. What makes her extra special? She also turned 28 yesterday! We are literally twins. Except we didn’t share the same womb. ha ha. I’ve already had 2 cups of coffee, go on, try and beat me. 😉
Your age: 27, turning 28 on 25 September – Whoop whoop! (Ed’s note – We’re twinsies, I turned 28 yesterday too!)
Your Occupation: PA to a Hospital Manager in the Private Healthcare industry, yes, not the most interesting job in the world but I’ve been told I’m beyond awesome at Admin (now that I say this out loud it doesn’t quite sound like a compliment, Mhmmm… moving along).
Tell us a bit more about yourself, what do you enjoy doing? Very cliché but I enjoy my family, I am very family orientated so life literally revolves around them. From my Husband, to my kids, to my parents and siblings. I love being involved in every aspect of their lives.
Other than that, I enjoy trying new recipes, baking and making (Hubby calls me a feeder, but it’s a way to show them I love them), long drives with my boys, I’m passionate about breastfeeding and event / wedding / party planning and definitely feel that in my next life I should really think about opening up my own events company.
A Mom’s favourite thing to do is talk about their children – tell us about your family: I have 2 boys, Daniyal (Meaning: God will be my judge) and Joshuah (Meaning: God is my salvation). As a Mom I think that my children are the greatest gifts to mankind, the most beautiful, most intelligent, most awesome little people I have ever met. However at times they drive me insane, which is normal from what I can remember as a child.
Danny is inquisitive, stubborn, strong willed, energetic but he’s the most amazing big brother Joshy could ever have asked for. He is helpful, he is kind, he is so loving and has a wonderful way of just climbing into your heart. I was blessed with an amazing baby and toddler.
Now Joshy, he is a handful. He is a “Ma Vas” little gremlin. Loveable but definitely going to be my challenging child. I know I shouldn’t label them, but he keeps me on my toes. He’s at the wonderful stage of taking his first steps, not yet confident enough to do it without holding onto my hand but he’s getting there. He recently this week celebrated his 1st birthday. The minute he hits that milestone I know my stress levels are going to hit an all time high. He’s fearless, loud and energetic but gives the best wet kisses any Mom could ask for.
If you work, tell us a bit more about your working environment – are you regularly in contact with new “clients/public”. I’m faced with this daily. I quite enjoy it though, I enjoy interacting with people.
People generally however come to our offices when they have complaints so I’m not normally faced with happy faces. Because of this I go out of my way to SMILE at everyone who enters my office.
Tell us a bit about your tattoos, what they are, why you have them, where they are located:
My first was located on my right shoulder blade, it was a tiger cub, sadly everyone thought it was a cat (I’m not a cat fan really), it had absolutely no meaning.
My second was a tribal design on my lower back, also didn’t quite think that placement through.
My third was a cross on my foot, this was the same cross which was on our Unity candle at our wedding. Hubby and I got matching ones just after our first wedding anniversary.
My fourth was meant to be an Orchid covering the kitten (meeouw), I still need to have this shading fixed. The artist didn’t make the design big enough to cover the previous tattoo so he in turn just blacked out sections. Not very creative and I had only realized once I saw the “end” result. But what could I do? It was done. Needless to say I will never go back to him and I definitely need someone to help me fix it.
My fifth is my favourite and a work in progress, it’s Script with the words “Daniyal, Amazing Grace, Joshuah”.
How old were you when you got your first tattoo: 18 years old
Which tattoo is your favourite and why? That would definitely without a doubt have to be my Sons names, I know its such a Mommy thing to say but its my fave!
I have Daniyal’s name followed by the worlds “Amazing Grace”, then little Joshuah’s.
It was specifically placed in that order with the words AG in the middle because its by Gods Amazing Grace I am where I am and I have these 2 precious boys.
Do you plan on getting more? Most definitely yes. Perhaps I can even twist my Hubbys arm in getting another for himself.
First on my list is fixing my not so great shoulder one.
How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Friends have been fine about it, family for the most part are cool (most of my sibling have their own, yay! Just needing to work on the baby brother, when he is ready that is). My Mother though, oh, in her words “If tattoos are a mark of the beast then I know none of my children will be going with me to heaven”, but she’s a bit dramatic. She actually finds them interesting and has never stopped any of her kids or treated us unkind due to us being marked up. My Dad loves them! However my inlaws are definitely not “pro” tattoos. So I keep them covered as much as possible around them.
What is the general reaction that “the Public” have towards your tattoos? Have you run into any negativity or adversity because of them? I generally have them covered (no one wants to see all this white flesh, believe me) so no one has ever had anything negative to say about them. If they did I don’t know how I would handle the situation. Yes every now and then you’ll get a little old lady giving me a very disapproving look while I walk with my kids but we just smile and ignore those.
Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed? Do your research about your tattoo artist, ask friends and family, do not do what I did and just go with anyone, you will end up with a blurry black something on your body and once its there its harder to remove / recreate.
Also, know what you want and have a design that you will be comfortable with in 10 or 20 years. Not like my first tattoo which was a spur of the moment I’m 18 years old type of thing. Yes that is the tattoo that although was done great had nothing to do with my life. It was a eenie meeni mini mo decision and when I tried to have it changed it didn’t quite go as planned. #tattooregrets
