Sometimes I sit down.
And then a few seconds later I have to get up. Because someone needs their nappy changed or homework assisted with or wants me to play Uno for the bajillionth time in a row. Although technically I can still sit for that.
Anyway. In case you were wondering what I define as “me time”, I thought I’d make you a list:
- Driving to work
- Driving home from work
- That one time that Seth and I had a break down in communication and he spent the afternoon at the beach with the kids without me.
- The minutes between 8pm and 10.30pm – mess with even one of those minutes and I will throat punch you. (Just joking. But try me.) Although technically this time is actually “couple” time, so does that even count?
- Those first five minutes that the kids actually play nicely together. It could be shorter or longer but as soon as I realise it’s happening and I decide to sit down or you know, do something I want to do, is when they will instantly freak the flip out and it’s over.
- Uh…
Sound familiar?
But there is a part of me that has been crying out for a little me time and it’s probably not what you think.
*spoiler alert* ~ It’s my hair!
The amount of time that I get to spend alone is minimal, the amount of time I get to pamper myself is even less than that. So when I looked in the mirror and realised that my roots had grown out so far I was starting to resemble someone that botched their home DIY “ombre” job, I thought I better get it fixed.
After making sure that my kids were sorted, I organised a couple hours of much needed “me time”. I booked myself in to Stylebar at Palmyra Junction (in Newlands) for an afternoon – committed to getting this fixed. Would it shock you to say that I had only ever lightened my hair in the comfort of my own home? Probably not, but it’s true. A box job that takes every single strand of my hair and makes it look the same as every other strand.
Boring and unnatural.
Looking at my girls hair often makes me jealous (as silly as that is), their natural highlights are beyond gorgeous and I really want to go back to that. In an effort to make that a reality, I chatted with my stylist and we decided to do some highlights to get the process going.
And in case you were wondering, “Sexy” IS my middle name.
After that I had it washed out and it was followed by the most delectable head massage ever. Seriously. I’d go back and just wash my hair there every day if I could, just to get that massage.
Obviously being at an amazing salon meant the opportunity to amend my hairstyle which has been “growing out” for the last year. Even though I always vow never to go for a fringe, I always leave with a fringe. This time was no different, but the more I am living with it every day, the more I am liking it.
I really enjoyed having a good couple of hours of “me time” – indulging in a cup of good coffee, reading magazines without interruptions and just getting a chance to relax. I can’t wait to make my next appointment.

I take “me time” during my lunch hour… every two weeks… when I get my nails done. But today I’m also heading off to get my unintentional ombre look sorted! Can’t wait!

Me time is something you’ve got to fight for , oh and sometimes you have to put a reminder in your phone to “take time out”…. lol
Your hair looks great!
I was thinking of the same thing today, I need some time out and a well deserved hair appointment would be great. Then I realized it would have to wait as that was totally not budgeted for this month. hahaha. Mommy problems, I know…
Box stuff will just have to do for now.
So glad you enjoyed this “me time” my friend x
