There are so many things that I love about the internet, but what sits firmly in my top 10 is that it’s so easy to connect with new people.
This may be a strange thing to do if you already have lots of real life people around you, right? But we all know that motherhood is a challenge that most non-mothers don’t understand and if you happen to be the first in your group of friends to have a baby (like I was) you may often feel quite alone with no one to laugh/cry/identify with. For me, this is the most exciting thing about blogging. It’s so easy now to find someone out there that is going through similar things to you, that you can reach out to, even if it just to know that you are not all alone.
So today I’m giving you the opportunity to meet another person that you may not have come across in your blog reading agenda, but you’ll definitely want to add to your list. I put together a random list of questions that will help you to really get to know Salomé better. None of this “what is your favourite colour nonsense”, let’s get right down to who you’d like to punch right in the face questions.
(If you want to read my answers to these questions, check out my interview on Salomé’s blog here).
On average, how many times a week do you have an audience of little people while you’re in the shower/ loo?
More often than I can count. If I don’t leave the door open, Odin will bang on the door and be SO upset and cry loudly as though mommy peeing without him is the end of the world! And it’s not getting any better, cause I’m 24 weeks pregnant with bubba #2 so soon there will be two little people crying on the other side of the door. 😉
More often than I’d like to admit. The time between getting Odin after work until we sit down for supper at night is to put it mildly: EXHAUSTING. Daddy’s not home yet, Odin wants ALL my attention while I try to get supper together and the girls (Lily and Poppy, our fur babies) are also round my feet the entire time because they want some love. At this time Odin is also Mr grumple-stilskin because he’s hungry and the only thing I have to offer him is a Boudoir biscuit. What does he do with his Boudoir biscuit? Feeds it to Lily the labrador who’s on a major diet. *rolls eyes* So, I feel like getting takeaways every day. But we don’t ’cause we’re trying our best to eat healthily.
Who would you love to punch directly in the face?
Anybody that presses our doorbell. The button for it is on the outside wall to our property. It makes a LOUD ding-DONG and it ALWAYS wakes the baby. ALWAYS on a Sunday when everyone is down for a nap and ALWAYS on the days where I find myself home alone for an hour trying to squeeze in a nap I’m woken mid nap. It makes me so angry, because the person that presses that button is never a friend or family member we’re dying to see. But people selling brooms or the neighbour’s kid threw his ball over the wall again. I can’t tell you how many times when Odin was a tiny tiny baby that bell woke him. But mommy wins. I’ve had enough of that silly contraption and unplugged it so anybody standing outside our property ringing our bell… we’re not gonna hear you, and you’re not gonna wake the baby. I win. *rant over*
What’s the most awkward thing your kid(s) have ever asked you/said and how did you respond?
Odin recently picked up the word ‘poepol’ from his granny and granddaddy. I was SHOCKED to hear it from his mouth, but he says it so cute and funnily that it’s SO tough not to laugh. My guess is granny and granddaddy talk a lot about foolish or people being silly for him to have picked up the word. ;-D
Can you fit your whole fist in your mouth?
I don’t think so. *few seconds later* No.
What’s your favourite flavour of jelly bean?
I love the blue ones.
Which family on TV/in a movie is most like your family and why?
It’s so hard to choose just one. I’d say we’re a good mix of Dinosaurs (remember that show?!), The Simpsons and Modern Family.
Where were you when you found out that Nelson Mandela died?
It was two or three am and I was feeding Odin on the bed in his nursery. I was scrolling through Facebook and started seeing updates from my friends saying “Tata Madiba”.
How many donuts are you capable of eating in one sitting?
I’d generally speaking battle to finish one in one sitting. I’d likely ask hubby to finish it for me. Perhaps it’s too sweet for me. Give me something savory like an entire bag of biltong / flings though, and I won’t be able to stop until it’s done!
Say there’s like a whole box of Oreos in a room all by themselves. Say I left them there and told you not to eat any until I got back. How long would it take you to disobey my wishes?
It depends…… is the box already open? Did you count the Oreos before you left? Might I be able to have just one before you get back? Why would you do this to me?! Are you back yet?
What is your favourite kind of cookie?
How many Taylor Swift songs do you actually listen to every single day?
Around four. But I skip through some of them and listen to my favourite ones on repeat. I feel like I’m about ten years too old to be listening to those songs, but I love it. It’s the cutest when Odin bops his head to the music too.
What’s the weirdest place you’ve ever been vomited on? (By your kids or others)
It was during the weekend and I’d just gotten back from a long day at work. I greeted and kissed hubby and as soon as I picked up the little guy he vomited down my blouse, over my blouse, my jeans, my shoes and all over the floor. It was one of those bad vom’s that no amount of clean up is going to rectify, you’re just going to have to change your clothes.
But you know what was the funny thing, was that I didn’t feel mad or upset. Still till today it amazes me that I was concerned about the little dude who was teething and weren’t feeling well. We changed both our clothes and cuddled on the couch. I think that’s what our kids do to us. I think they come into our lives and the love that we feel for them make us more human. Amazing, hey?
How many times does it take for you to listen to a song that you love before you actually hate it instead?
Exactly 546 times. 🙂 Once I reach this number, it’s pretty tough to love a song again. Perhaps I’ll love All About That Bass again in five or so year’s time. But I honestly can not even.
What do you think dogs dream about?
Running and chasing other dogs in the park! Lots and lots of running! My dogs often dream while we’re chilling on the couch and they definitely dream about running. PS one of my favorite youtube clips. I bet you you won’t be able not to laugh.
What is one guilty pleasure you enjoy too much to give up?
If Odin needs a little nap, I switch the TV to BBC lifestyle. I lay on the couch and he gets comfortable in the nook of my arm. I absolutely love to watch Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, Hotel Hell, Come Dine with Me and especially Come Dine with Me SA. I love all of these shows and it’s just such mindless viewing that for a second or two I’m not worried about anything while little Odes has a little sleep. Of course, a little sleep on your mom is just the best thing. I know soon he won’t want to sleep and cuddle on me anymore :'(
