Getting Kids To Brush Their Teeth – Plus A Chance To *WIN* A Philips Sonicare Tooth Brush For Kids

Do you struggle to get your kids to brush their teeth?

I do.  It’s a flipping mission.

Well actually, that’s not really a fair comment.

With Kyla we bought her a tooth brush before she’d even popped any teeth.  But like most first time parents we thought she was teething, basically from birth.  So we were merrily brushing her little gums every day until she finally popped teeth at 12 months (yes that’s right, 12 months!).  It was just something that we did because we were organised like that.

With Riya we only got her a tooth brush when her first tooth popped at 7 months.  It actually wasn’t too much of a change to the routine so brushing teeth continued to be a merry occasion.

Until Knox.

Oh goodness that boy is strong willed.  He’s hated brushing his teeth since we first put one in his mouth.  Unless he brushes himself of course, but we all know that this just means that he sucks the tooth paste off and actually no teeth are being cleaned at all.  I have had to physically hold him down to ensure that we get just one decent brush in every day.

I don’t know how we got it so right with the girls, maybe it was conditioning them to do it from such an early age or if they actually just like brushing their teeth, but either way it hasn’t ever been a fight to get them to do it.

But are they doing it properly?

When Philips Sonicare sent me the tooth brush to check out, they also sent through these little red tablets.  Basically you chew them and it shows you how much plaque is still getting left on their teeth after brushing (themselves or me brushing) with a normal tooth brush.  So we put it to the test.

This is after she brushed her own teeth this morning…

The fact that it is so pink is the problem.  The pink sticks to the plaque which causes the damage.  Appalling to say the least!

After choosing a cool sticker to place on their new brush, we gave the Philips Sonicare a go.  What a difference!

What have I learned?  Well, it’s important to continue to brush your kids teeth until they are at least 6 or 7 and to invest in a tooth brush that is actually capable of removing all of the harmful things that collect on our kids teeth.

Today I am giving away a Philips Sonicare for kids rechargeable powerbrush worth R899 to give you the tooth brush that can properly clean your kids teeth.  (It is suitable for children aged 4 to 10 years.)

What’s extra cool is that you can buy additional heads for each of your kids so everyone can benefit from the power of the Sonicare brush.
