A Day In The Life Of The Alfino's

Easy Food For Play Dates, Plus You HAVE To Watch This!

Play dates are like soul food for me.

The chance to catch up with friends over coffee and chat about all that parenting throws at us is just so necessary nowadays where we spend our lives “connecting” with people online.  You know, so you remember what your friends look like without the filter and that you’re not in this parenting thing alone.  Play dates make you grateful to be over a phase or excited for a new one, a chance to cuddle a baby or be impressed by the skills of toddlers.  I love it.

And I’m pretty sure my kids enjoy it too.

We’re not able to have as many play dates as we used to due to the kids doing extra murals and our other commitments during the week.  Trying to organise one is almost impossible because everyone has stuff to do in the afternoons and it’s so hard to find the time to get together – especially when you are a working Mom and can only do things in the afternoons.

Recently we have had a friend move down the road from us and made friends with our neighbours, so having impromptu play dates are actually possible again and it’s great.  The problem is that when everyone comes over to our place I am the worst host.  Not having any snacky food for the kids (or adults) and just generally only being able to offer tea/coffee/water.

One thing that I have always wanted to be was a good host.  You know, like my Mother in Law.  She is just incredible.  Pop in to fetch something and you end up staying for the most amazing lunch.  Always prepared to entertain no matter what the occasion.

I want to be her when I’m big.

So when I did this article for Spar Savour Magazine I realised how easy it could be to do this.  All it takes is keeping a few goodies hidden in the fridge.

Here are four simple, but yummy, play date foods that are quick and easy to prepare.  Plus when you land on this page, you have to watch how cute the little video snippet of the kids running around in the park is.  My heart doubled in size watching it!

While you’re checking out content that we have written on spaces other than this one, Seth also did a piece on Daddy Dates that Dads could have with their children that are not only lots of fun, but a chance for Dads to connect with their kids.

Check it out – Just click on the pic to go on through to the contributer section of the mag, then click my face and then “read article” at the bottom.
