Cause I’m Leavin’ On A Jet Plane
Don’t know when I’ll be back again.
Except that I do. Because I’m a mother and not some carefree globe trotter.
I know some people frequent airplanes as regularly as they do their vehicles. Or maybe they fly at least a couple of times a year. Or even just once a year to visit their granny or some drool worthy tropical destination. But that ain’t me.
You know how many times I’ve flown in an aircraft?
Twice.
To Durban and home again. I was 20. On honeymoon and in love with my new husband. More excited for adventure than I’d ever been in my whole life. (Which is saying a lot, because Adventure is not my second name).
This time I’m 28, a mom of three and terrified that I’m going to leave them motherless. No hand to clutch mine during take off and no one to hold my hair back if turbulence hits. I mean I’m not really sure that I might die in a plane crash tomorrow, but you can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll be kissing them goodbye like maybe I will be.
It seems like along with my capacity for fear, the propensity for drama has increased with age too.
I’ll be flying with a few other bloggers and journalists to the big concrete jungle of, uh Joburg to attend an event tomorrow evening. It’s my first time in Joburg which really has come as a shock to many people, but apparently I don’t get out much. I really and truly can’t think about anything else.
Also looking forward to meeting up with Sharon in the couple of hours of spare time I have in between everything. If anyone else is free tomorrow afternoon and can get to the Linden/Cresta area tomorrow, let me know. I still don’t know where exactly I’m staying, but we can plan on Twitter.
To make sure that I don’t forget the experience, I’ll be Snapchatting as much of it as my battery and data will allow. Catch me there – user name: cindyalfino.
Eeeeeeek!

Yay you! Have fun. Joburg isn’t so bad and Joburgers are even better. You will have so much fun. Hope the event is worthwhile and try not to worry about the kids too much. They will be fine. I PROMISE! xx
Have tons of fun. Im sure the kiddos will be just fine!
Have fun Cindy!!!!!!!!!
I am totally singing that song now. I’ve also only been on a plane twice, to Durban and back home. I was 7 years old lol. Good luck and have fun at the event. I’m sure the children will be fine and you can smother them with more kisses and hugs when you’re back home.
Enjoy Cindy! Don’t worry you get out more than me. I’ve never been on a jet plane or anywhere outside of the Western Cape. How horrible is that… 🙁
Good luck and safe travels. Most importantly though, have FUN!

ah Cindy I live near Cresta – please we must meet up! I’m not invited to the event though!
Oh enjoy! Wish I could do the drive but have a full day tomorrow
I actually started to love flying once I got used to it. i just don’t watch “air crash investigation” anymore! The feeling like you’re gonna leave your kids motherless… I feel that too and also feel like my husband may leave our kids fatherless every week he gets on a plane but you know what… Hes still here ?
Have fun. 🙂
What!! You’ve never been to Joburg! Now I hope it doesn’t disappoint you because it’s got it’s own kind of charm but nothing as stunning as Cape Town.
Hope you have a good trip
Good luck and have fun x
