I am not a minimalist.
At least not when it comes to collecting special moments.
If I could, I’d fill my walls with precious treasures that we’d collected over the years – snuggles before bed, laughs at silly moments, the rock that became a pet, the surprised look on Knoxs face when he tries to understand new things.
The little things that aren’t things but rather people and experiences. The reasons that make my life worth living.
Instead of trying to keep these moments alive by attempting to stop my kids from growing up, (bricks on heads don’t work – trust me on this), I’ve had to settle with photographs. Little snaps capturing life as it is. As it was. For us to sit and look back on every couple of years, incredulous that this was what we did, what we were like and how we used our time together.
If you visit our house you will be bombarded with pictures. They are on every wall, sitting in frames on every surface and even floating along on our screen savers. If you’ve been around the blog long enough, you’d know that I will never say no to the chance of working with photographers or even just shoving my own camera in the kids faces whenever I have a moment.
So when Jess from Watercolour Heart got in touch with me to capture some of our moments in her unique brand of fine art, I absolutely had to have this for our collection of moments. A special treasure to add to the chest.
In case you aren’t aware of Watercolour Heart let me explain. Jess produces personalised, hand-drawn images – taking photographs and turning them into unique illustrations. Her goal is to make every day a celebration of life and creativity, even for people like me who are not artistically inclined.
All of the illustrations are hand-drawn, then scanned and made digital, so illustrations will be received via email. The reason for this is to make the process both affordable and easy to share. These beautiful personalised illustrations make unique gifts, or pieces of decor, a special cards or just a little something just to add a little creativity to everyday life.
Ordering an illustration is really easy. All Jess needs to create your unique piece of art is a photograph that you adore. Then you have the option of a plain image or one enclosed in a doily or wreath. You can discuss colours, flowers and including words too. The images take 2 – 3 days and are sent in high resolution via email – so you can print as many as you need without having to compromise on quality.
We chose to have three images done with the doily pattern to create a collection that we could put up on our wall. I’m smitten!
Now it’s time for you to have your very own Watercolour Heart illustration.
