It’s Not Christmas Till You’ve Been To Uncle Pauls

A little perspective…

We didn’t have a tree.  Our house was bare.  We were still recovering from our break in and none of us were on holiday yet.

The festive cheer?  It was not with us.

Instead we were feeling the end of the year burn out and it was not pretty.

BUT there’s one thing that always says it’s Christmas time and that’s our annual visit to Uncle Pauls in Constantia.  It’s something that I went to as a child and so it’s one of the only traditions we had growing up that I still enforce with our kids today.

There’s just something magical about Uncle Pauls.  It could be tractor ride up through the beautiful vineyards, or the castle that’s been put up that just screams magic, or the visit from the marching band, or the visit from Noddy with a sneaky dessert BEFORE supper.  It could also be the fact that Santa comes to visit, so does a tiny little fairy that goes from streaking bright lights through the trees to getting bigger in the castle.  She brings sweets.  The kids adore her – even more than they love Santa.

But for me, all of things are great, but the BEST part has to be the straw fights.  Which is why these make up basically all the pictures!

My mom, brother and soon to be sister in law joined us this year and it was a really great time.  Good family memories to add into the brain folder.
