Is there anything better than a good party theme?
Of course there is. Back massages after a long, stressful day. That moment when your child says “I love you Mom” without any prompting. Nik Naks. A really great book. Curling up in the arms of your person when everything else in the World stops making sense.
You get the idea.
The thing is, a great party theme is in that list for me, because maybe I’m weird like that. But maybe it’s way up on the list because it makes our everyday lives just a little bit more fun. Just a little bit more exciting and a tinsy tiny bit more beautiful.
Our friends had a super epic Cupcake Wars Party for their daughters 8th birthday party. The idea is that you split your group of girls into two teams. They work together to create loads of well decorated cupcakes along the theme of each round. Then they are judged by taste, decor and team work. Then the winning team, well they win of course.
Because of the time limit of a kids party, Claudette did all the baking before the party but then set up the most epic decorations table I have ever seen. Colourful icings, an array of rainbow sweets (colour coded of course), sprinkles, sparkles, glitter and so much more. You had to see the girls eyes when they saw what was on the table! I kept catching Riya with her hand in her mouth – so much so that I was surprised that there were actually decorations on the cupcakes she was making.
Each guest got the sweetest homemade apron, a spatula and a decorated cake box to take their creations home in. It really was such a fantastic idea. Our girls are still talking about it days later begging me to do it again with them.
Here’s a bit of a photo essay of the whole thing 😉
Come hang out with me on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

WHat a great idea! I think even the 11 year old would love this
Absolutely! The first theme was Easter, the second Rainbow and the third was Spring – so many fun ideas that you can get them to create.
Wow it looks like so much fun!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea.
I actually LOVE this idea so much. Even I would enjoy this sort of party and I’m the ripe ol’ age of 34 haha
I know right! It would give me great pleasure to do this too, it took everything in me not to push all the kids aside and get stuck in myself 😉
Loved the theme! Doubt it will work with my boys though lol
LOL, probably not – but you never know hey? 😉
