Fetch It, Fix It, Fridge It

fridge

They say that a home without a fridge, is like a home without a heart.

Or maybe I just made that up because my whole life seems to revolve around food right now.  Either way, I think it’s true.

I used to think that the heart was that rumbly old washing machine.  The one that just keeps chugging day after day to catch up with the clothes my kids insist on changing 300 times a day.  But no, that’s not the heart.  Still vital though, so maybe it could be the lungs.  But the heart is most definitely the fridge.  Because food.  Because endless requests for snacks.  Because no food means hangry mommy.

We got our fridge back in 2007, the year we got married.  It’s a tiny little thing, but we were just two people, so it was perfect.  To clarify, I’m not taller than many things (curse of being short) but I’m pretty sure I was taller than this fridge.  Anyway, since then, well, our family has grown just a bit.  That cute little thing with just two teeny tiny freezer shelves was bursting with the requirements of feeding a family of five.  It showed it’s irritation with us by leaking continuously.

All over the kitchen floor.

I’m not lying to you when I tell you that it’s been doing this for over a year.  Just leaking all over.  We’d just mop it up and carry on with our lives because we couldn’t afford to get a new fridge, but couldn’t send it in for repairs because, it’s the heart of the home remember?!  How does the home cope without the heart?  There’d be far too many hangry moments to even try and think about going without a fridge for a few days, or worse a week or two.

Enter FetchIt, FixIt.

Fetch It, Fix It

They contacted me to see if we’d be keen to try their service because not only do they fetch it, fix it, THEY GIVE YOU A LOAN ITEM FOR FREE.  Guys, problem freaking solved.  Here’s how it works.

You have an appliance that’s giving you trouble.  No, you don’t stress, you immediately hop onto FetchIt, FixIt and book your appliance in for collection and while you’re there, select your need for a loan appliance.  This fetch it – quote it service is only R400.

When the day and time comes that you’ve booked, you see this cool van pulling into your driveway and you give them your appliance and they give you the loan one (they even help you unpack and pack the fridge which was super helpful with three kids running amok in the background).  They drive away, leaving you with an even better fridge than you had before they came.  Then you change your number, move house and keep the fridge.

No I’m totally joking.  Don’t do that.

A couple of days later you’ll get an email with a list of things that are wrong or need to be fixed and a quotation for these fixes or a service (I found these prices really reasonable).  If you want to go through with the quote that’s awesome, if you don’t that’s cool too.  Either way, you book a time and date that suits you to return your goods and voila, no more swimming pool type leaks all over your kitchen floor!  Unless you didn’t choose to fix it of course.

But back to us.  We’d been talking to my Mom, who has a much bigger fridge than ours to use on her own and been meaning to swop fridges with her for ages.  But I didn’t want to do that while the fridge we had was still leaking – that wouldn’t have been a very nice thing to do.  Now that it was fixed, we did the swop and so we’re all winning – HOORAY!

I’d really recommend the FetchIt, FixIt service, they were friendly, reliable, on time and affordable.  All things you need when giving someone your heart. Um, wait that didn’t come out right.  You know what I mean though, right?

Knox has been keeping me company in his Spiderman toga (don’t ask, I couldn’t even tell you if I tried), while I cook in the afternoons.  He’s been keeping himself busy playing with all the magnets on our new fridge, so I think he approves too.

Ooh what a great service! No one should ever be without their heart (or lungs for that matter). Glad you got sorted and got a bigger fridge in the process.

PS: love Knox’s toga! Fashion statement I say 🙂
