A Little Bite Of Trust

I know it doesn’t look like it now, but if you’d seen Seth about 4 years ago you probably wouldn’t have recognised him.  Not because he didn’t have a beard, but because he was so much heavier than he is now.  So much larger that we now refer to that time as the time he looked like a “chubby cheesemaker”.  Because, well, he looked like he made and ate all the cheese.

This post has been sponsored by Trust Protein Bars

Let me guess.  You don’t believe me.  So I asked Seth if he wouldn’t mind sharing some of the pictures I know NEVER made it anywhere near the blog back in 2012…  And he sent me this, because guys, he has a folder on his phone literally named, “Tubs”.  It’s full of pictures of overweight Seth.

How you doing?

Thank goodness for marriage vows right?  Jokes.  He’s lucky he was still funny and also that I’m not at all that shallow.

Anyway that was back in 2012 – around about the time that Knox was born.  Then he decided to do something about it because he wants to be around to see his children grow up.  If you’re relatively new to our blog, you may not be aware that Seth actually has cancer.  It’s quite a rare form of cancer that is called Mycosis Fungoides, a form of Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma.  Basically the cancer of the immune system, which in turn attacks the skin.  Technically it’s not fatal, but if not properly maintained it could be.  Something that only properly hit us once we’d had kids and realised how freaking serious it really is.

He wrote a post back in 2014 when he’d been on the diet for a while (and actually wrote blog posts with me).  You can read about how he discovered the cancer and everything, here.

Since then we have come a long way.  Besides changing his diet completely and cutting (at that time) all refined carbs and sugar, he then also started gym.  And with gym came watching gym video’s on Instagram and talking about gains with the bro’s.  Oh and asking me which kind of six pack I preferred and whether this big is too big?

Now not only did he want to eat really healthily and go to the gym every day (not even joking – he’s an all or nothing kind of guy), he wanted to make sure that his diet met the healthy requirements but provided ALL the gains as well.  This meant eating protein like he was a caveman.  It had to be in every meal, as part of every snack and even then it wasn’t enough.  And I don’t know if you’ve looked at the prices of meat recently, or like, the state of the planet, but trying to do that with animal based protein is just crazy.

We looked at all the various options out there and with the price of meat – that went out the window.  Then with the whey proteins I was never comfortable with all the crap that goes in there with the protein.  SO much sugar!  So we kept looking.

Eventually we agreed on protein bars and he’s been using them occasionally ever since.  So when Trust Protein Bars contacted us about reviewing their products it was a no brainer bro.  We’re all about the gains here.

For me I’m sold on the fact that you can buy them for less than R30 per bar at your local Dischem (and various other places – I saw them in Cape Union Mart too).  It’s a much better alternative to a normal chocolate bar.  AND it’s got very little sugar and other random ingredients in it – or should I say, less than other bars of the same nature.  Because let’s face it, it doesn’t matter to me if Seth looks like Arnold if he is as unhealthy as flip on the inside.  Oh and because flavours are important, Seth has preferred the peanut butter flavour over the vanilla cupcake or the chocolate coconut bars.  Easy on the tastebuds, his body and our pockets.  Winning.

Oh one last thing…  When I asked Seth to pose for some shots for me, he totally got into character which I’m sure you can tell from the pictures.  Man, I love this guy and how much we laughed while taking these pictures.
