Riya Ray, today you are seven. Freaking SEVEN! How even?
It feels so weird to say that my baby girl is seven. The sentence is contradictory. How can a baby be seven? And yet no matter how old you are, you will always be my baby girl. I know I keep telling you that and every time I do, you totally roll your eyes at me, but it’s true.
When you’re 15 I’m still going to be calling you that, though I’ll try not to do it in front of your friends. (Who am I kidding, I cannot wait to playfully embarrass you in front of your friends). At 25 I’ll be thinking it as you work through milestone moments that tend to come along in the mid twenties. When you’re 35 you’ll be coming over for tea and I’ll be giving my baby girl advice that she may actually listen to now that she realises that I might a little something about life after all.
Riya, you are my fire cracker. The girl that keeps me on my toes. Every time I think I know what’s going on in your head, you surprise me with something totally out of the blue. It’s awesome. Who even likes dull moments anyway?
One of the many things that I adore is your use of English. How you are unafraid to say what you are thinking even if you get the word muddled up. It is easily that cutest thing you do right now and it’s so special watching you figure it all out. But yet while you are showing so much growth in so many areas, you still need a good old fashioned cuddle every now and then, because sometimes only a hug can make everything OK again.
Currently the most repeated phrase out of your mouth is, “I know!”. Yup. In case you’re wondering, I think you can leave school right now because you apparently know everything girlfriend. Every time I open my mouth to tell you something the phrase pops right out your mouth. It’s both wonderfully adorable because well, you don’t know, but it’s also flipping frustrating when said with sass.
Now, there isn’t a problem with sass, unless it’s directed at me. In which case I have a big problem with it. But you know that right?!
Anyway. I love you my girl. All of you. Forever and for always.
Peace and love
MOM

Happy birthday Riya!!! We get that “I know” phrase all too often in our home as well. Good luck with the party plans 😀
