When Things Work Out Differently

Do you remember we had a party a little while ago?  It was a camping party for Kyla and Riya who annoyingly seem to insist on getting older every year.  I say annoyingly but that’s only because I’d like them to be little forever.  Not because of the party planning – y’all know how much I love that.

What I didn’t really mention at the time, is that I totally stuffed up.

The story is this…

Kyla is in Grade 2, which means that I still had all her parents numbers from last year saved in my phone.  Riya on the other hand just started Grade 1 and so it was a whole bunch of new parents that I didn’t have numbers for.  Which was totes fine.  I sent out a Save The Date to everyone who I had numbers for and then hoped that by the time I got the deets for Riya’s class, it would all still be fine.

Except that just before the holidays someone else sent out their invite… for the exact same date…  at the exact same time.

So that meant that none of her new school friends could attend her party.

Now usually I’d just count that as tough toodie.  But she was so flipping sad about it that I told her that I’d throw her a SMALL party straight after school for some of her friends.  What I didn’t realise is that her small and my small were totally different things.

Never the less we whipped up another low key camping party with the small fleet of tents from Totem Teepee.  I think the end result looked flipping cool!  Even the fire looked rad with the red/orange cellophane paper!  In terms of food we really did go low key with only supplying some pizzas, chips and veg to dip.

Because of this we didn’t do any party packs or any take home things and you had to see how confused the kids were, like what is a party without a take home.  But that’s a story for another post.
