My First WISH Order

My First WISH Order Experience

After being constantly harassed on Facebook with beautiful looking dresses and things on the Wish app I decided to give it a go.  Look, I was just as dubious as you probably are – how can it be so affordable?  Also, am I just paying my hard earned cash to some random store only for it to never arrive.

But I have good news.  It did arrive…  Eventually.

My gosh!  Not realising how long it would take for the delivery (their estimated time is FIFTY NINE DAYS FOLKS) I ordered a variety of things for the girls upcoming camping party.  Which arrived just after the party actually took place.  I placed our order on 31 May and the goods arrived in the nearest Post Office on 28 July.  Oh well, so sad too bad and all that.

The thing is, if you’ve done any research on this on Social Media, you were probably expecting a wait.  But the good news is that when the parcel finally arrives, it feels like Christmas so it’s OK.

So let’s talk about whether you get what you pay for…

The prices are just so affordable that I couldn’t resist throwing in a few things I knew I may regret.  Like clothing.  I’ve heard it said that the sizing is so off that some people gave it to ants to wear, but I figured my girls would love me if they could get it off me, so it would be a win win.  And yes, clothing is probably the hardest thing to buy online as sizing is often not really what they promise.  But nevertheless I naively ordered five different things.  Two clothing items (a jersey and a dress) and 3 party related items (camping bunting, sweet little animal party packs and superhero masks – because Knox is still obsessed).  Of these five things only THREE of them arrived.

Each item is sent separately and so you may get them all together but from what everyone’s said, it definitely come in drips and drabs.  The three items that arrived were the dress, the jersey and the bunting.  Which is a pity because those little animal party packs were just too flipping cute.

It arrived.  But is it what I expected?

The bunting was exactly on point.  It was exactly as I saw in the app.  But stationery is pretty easy to get right.  Let’s talk about the clothing.

The jersey is the perfect fit.  It’s also comfy and exactly what I saw in the pictures.  However it isn’t great quality.  The patches on the sleeves are made with the flimsiest material that will easily just rub off after a couple of wears.  The actual jersey however, is maybe not the best quality I’ve ever had, but it’s warm and comfy so for like R100 I still think it’s a win.  I’ll just take off the patches at some point and replace them with something else.

Also, I have received lots of compliments on the jersey, so it can’t be that bad right?

Then the dress.

This flipping dress is what made me want to use this app in the first place.  I mean it’s just so Springy and pretty.  I had to have it.  And for like R120, I think it was worth it even if it was a bit of a miss.  Like my girls could use it if the sizing was totally off or whatever.

When you look at it, it’s exactly what you see in the pictures.  From a distance it’s exactly what you think your ordered.  To a T.  In fact, I really liked how it looked on.  AND IT HAS POCKETS!!  Winning!!

The only problem is that the material is really crappy.  It’s actually slightly shiny!  And even though I just bought shiny shoes, I don’t really want a shiny dress when it’s not supposed to be shiny if you know what I mean.

All of that said, I’m probably still going to wear it, because unless you get all up in my business and like, stroke me or something, you probably won’t notice.  Or least that’s what I’ll tell myself anyway.

Also, how cute is Spartan photobombing all my pictures?!  He even followed me to the lounge haha

I was also happy with my first Wish order (three months and counting for delivery, though). My expectations were set loooow, so I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a lace cocktail dress that is shorter than I wanted, but I am 5″10, and it’s definitely not too short to wear. This isn’t a problem I’ve only had online! I also bought cosmetics and serums and I love them.

That dress looks gorgeous!

I love Wish!! I have ordered a bunch of stuff (like really, a BUNCH!)
Clothing items – I received 4 items that were like What the actual?? But the rest were all great (about maybe 20 more clothing pieces), and lots of other bits and bobs for the kids – caps, shoes, toys, unicorn bits and bobs until it came out my ears!! All great, bar the 4 items that I threw to the back of the cupboard.

I have had about 8 items that never showed up and I promptly got refunded for them when I contacted their support.

I see lots more Wish shopping in my future.

Thanks! Yeah I think a lot of placing the order with them is knowing your body and limiting whether you’ll be disappointed.

The dress looks really pretty – it’s the same dress that I saw but I couldn’t decide on whether to get in white or the dark blue. I left my husband to order clothes first rather instead of paying and then it isn’t what I expected. He hasn’t received his clothes as yet…

The dark blue is pretty too! I’ve also seen some other very pretty chiffon things. Nice selection of stuff.

Hi Cindy,
Did you have to pay any import costs on the items you ordered? We’ve ordered from Dxtreme before and had random custom fees and import costs. If there were no import costs I’m keen to try Wish. Thanks for posting about it – I’ve been wondering how good they are.

321Blog 29 August 2017 at 4:01 PM

I think because they were all small things and sent separately I didn’t have to incur any costs at all! Happy shopping!

Chantal Riley 29 August 2017 at 4:42 PM

thanks for the heads up – I have been keen to try the app but wasn’t sure. A friend used aliexpress.com for stationery and aside from the wait (30 days) it worked like a bomb, so I am about to give that a try 🙂 But wish is next on my list

I think it’s best to start small and then see what you think before doing the next order.

Thank you for posting this! Needed some more reviews from South Africans because I was interested to know if you’d have to pay customs or not. The dress looks like it was made for your body! Pity about the fabric, but what I’ve noticed with Wish is that clothes will look like the picture but the material they use will be a cheaper synthetic one. I can’t tell that it is shiny from the pics but viscose would have been better for summer. Either way you look FAB.

Thanks man! Yeah I think it’s a bit of a gamble with these things, but sometimes, the gamble pays off 🙂
