You’ve probably noticed the ever lengthening curls on the head of our sweet boy. Maybe you’ve thought it was super cute or maybe you’re wondering if we’re sinking ever deeper into the world of the true hippy. But either way, I’m sure you’ve noticed it. It’s kind of hard to miss.
At first it was just hair doing what it normally does. Like, growing and stuff. But then we reached a point where we should have cut it and instead of doing that we were like, “When will he ever be able to grow his hair as long as he wants to again?” and so we left it.
It isn’t something that we projected on him, but we did chat to him and asked what he wanted to do – cut or leave it? The very first time we asked, he wanted to cut it all but leave his Superman curl. When I said that it might look a little weird, he thought about it a bit more. Eventually he decided that he wanted to leave it and well, that’s exactly what we did.
You don’t have to ask me twice to knock things off my to do list!
Now it’s at the point where even his Superman curl does a weird spiral thing straight into his eyeballs and so he’s started having to wear a clip in his hair at school. Initially he was like no freaking way, but now he’s gotten used to it. The kids in his class laughed once or twice and that made him feel a bit iffy about the whole thing, but they all got over it pretty quickly and so did he. Which is totally to be expected because kids are only used to what they are exposed to and it’s not every day that little boys walk around with long hair. But I’m glad that it’s becoming more acceptable. As a person who may not be radically outside of the box, I still don’t like that people make fun of people that are different to them just for being different. I mean who wants to be just like someone else? Not me thank you very much.
Personally I flit between absolutely loving it and then hating it.
With his natural curls it gets quite tangled and he hates brushing it. So sometimes he walks around looking like he’s literally crawled out of the bushes. I’m not really down with the crazy. But then sometimes it all just curls so beautifully that I am jealous that my hair doesn’t do the same.
But what can you do? Now that he’s decided what he wants to do, there is no changing his mind!

He is so cute! I can’t wait to see how adorable he looks once his hair grows even longer. 🙂
I always said that if we were to have a son, I’d like to let his hair to grow while he’s still little enough and there aren’t any “rules”.
I think it’s going to start looking crazy! But flipping cute at the same time – it’s definitely an experiment!
Snap. It’s his hair so he gets to choose when he wants it cut. Some kids at school teased him a bit but between me and the teachers, they don’t anymore. Occasionally he wears a ponytail 🙂
I reckon while they are still small and that’s what they want, then why try and change their minds?!
