Is it too late to be talking about Christmas? Probably. But is this my blog where I don’t give a damn about what should and shouldn’t be done? Why yes it is. So hellooooooo Christmas.
As usual it took us a while to get into the festive cheer. I think it might be because we go away with friends in the week leading up to Christmas. Which means that although we’re on holiday, we don’t really get to enjoy all the decor and things that we set up at home. I’m not really complaining though, because holiday and if you complain about holidays you’re a chop.
But it is what it is ya know?
We kicked off our celebrations a week early with a dinner with my brother (Unc) and his wife (Cat). Always a great time. Then this year instead of doing our usual morning opening thing with the whole extended family it was only the five of us and my momsy. Unc and Cat came over the day before to swap presents and chill a bit with the kids.
On Christmas Eve we did the usual things. Put out the biscuits, milk, carrots and water. The girls were so good about carrying on the magic for Knox. I thought they’d spill the beans on purpose but I think the fear of death that we instilled in them may have worked.
Then I totally messed it up. On Christmas night I happened to go through my Insta stories with Knox watching and he saw the story of Seth putting the powder on the boots.
What a flipping epic fail!
Man I had to act quickly. I was oh, no, Dad was just checking that they were right and that it really was his footprints. I think he bought it. It might have helped that as soon as I realised what we were watching I moved it away so I’m not sure he really was sure what he saw.
Sigh. Santa also has two left feet – Seth didn’t liss like dirtying two boots. Haha
Christmas day was great. We went to church then headed straight home to make veg. I was in charge of the veg so obviously church went on almost an hour longer than I thought it would. Luckily it was edible albeit slightly watery (didn’t get a chance to have it in the oven without the cover).
As always with our Christmas lunch, there is just SO much. In fact all 20 odd of us had a full lunch with seconds and then could still all dish from the “leftovers” to have supper! Insane!
Sammy and Donny did such a great job of hosting us, with all the decor and everything. It’s always a pleasure to spend time with them and our family.
And man, watching everyone’s Christmas eve and Christmas day stories I had to laugh at their plates. I mean yes, they looked beautiful with their slice of meat, two potatoes and spoonful of veg but guys, seriously? That’s not a plate of food. I’m not really one for excessive eating but even still, you’re not doing Christmas right if it’s not at least slightly piled up high.
The rest of the afternoon was spent chilling. As it should be.
It was a combination of opening presents, playing darts, drinking wine, reading books and even some people taking a subtle nap haha.
This year we have spent a total of 15 Christmases together and this guy is still my main man.
Last year we took exactly the same picture and the funny thing is that both Seth and his Dad were wearing the same shirts hahaha.
All in all, we had a super Christmas in 2017 surrounded by family and friends. Every year it reminds me how lucky we are to have these people in our lives on a daily basis.
I hope you all had a super Christmas too!
