Mandatory road trip stop to Frog Mountain. Or anywhere really.
The little holiday that I mentioned in my last post is this one – our trip to Frog Mountain. We always plan to go away for about 3/4 nights in the December holidays. Usually with another family and this year we went with our good friends, the Patons.
The last time we were at Frog Mountain we had the least ideal weather. It basically rained or was miserable and cold the entire time we were there. Thankfully the weather this time around was basically perfection so we really go to make the most of what they venue has to offer.
Which is a LOT!
The house we stayed at could comfortably sleep all 10 of us (4 adults, 6 kids) and it had great views of the pastures. The kids were absolutely obsessed with the cows. The girls literally named every single one of the them. Even though there were easily 20 of them, they managed to stay remembering the names all weekend. Oh to be young again and have like, memory and stuff.
Aside from that there’s a secluded pool area and a river. On the river you can canoe, swim or take your chances on the “foefie” slide. Yoh guys. Everyone except the boys (the little ones) went on it. So obvs the pressure was on for me to do the same. Yes, I hated every second of it, but I felt like I needed to do it for my girls. And also to get everyone to shut up about it.
Once the girls got the hang of it, there was no stopping them. They were up and down that thing like crazy!
When we weren’t screaming down the foefie slide, swimming away the heat in the pool or paddling along on a canoe, we were chilling at our housie. Either cooking hearty huge breakfasts, braaing lunch or supper. Usually with a G&T in hand. Man kids like to eat hey? It was a non stop food fest. But I’m not complaining.
One of the mornings we hiked up to the waterfall. Stupidly I thought I would a good idea to leave my camera and phone behind and like, enjoy it tech free. What a freaking idiot. It was such a glorious waterfall and filled with so many beautiful memory shots. Oh well. Just going to have to remember it in my brain. So basically for another week or so.
It really was a flipping great holiday. Very relaxing.
Except for the spiders of course!
We had THREE encounters with massive spiders. Guys. I didn’t burn the place down because, well, like um, you know. It’s not mine. But I was so flipping tempted!! The first joined us while wee were wrapping up our dinner. It was living in the hand rail up the steps. The second was on the floor in the kitchen that very same night. And the third woke us up on the wall RIGHT ABOVE MY FREAKING BED!
The worst. The absolute worst. I hate spiders. Just writing about it now is giving me goosies.
Other than that we did all the usual holiday things. Braaied marshies, braaied all the things, had massive fry up breakfasts, drank coffee over looking green things, swam till we burned (Seth was almost purple at one point), paddled canoes, dodged ant hills, watched the cows. Basically just whatever the heck we wanted and it was glorious.
Man, I want to go back!
The last thing I’ll leave you with is all the pictures the kids took when they got hold of my camera. I absolutely LOVE them. Kids art and kids photography make me extremely happy. The things that they choose to take pictures of. The best.

Ah that’s good to hear! Do you have any plans to travel anywhere this year?
I have NEVER heard of it, but the name alone makes me want to go! Sounds like a fairytale.
