But What Did You Do With All Your Stuff?

\ THIS IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG – THE LOUNGE WAS FULL!

So you embark on a massive adventure where you plan to travel the whole of South Africa and a few other countries along the way…  But in a campervan.  Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool (Brooklyn 99 fans where you at?).   You do you boo.  But like, what about all your stuff?

It’s pretty difficult to fit all of your three bedroomed house into a 7.5m2 van, so what the heck do you do about the rest of your belongings that just don’t fit?  Like the couch, the dining room table and the 536 other pairs of shoes you have but don’t want to give away?

Ask me, I know!!

You put it in storage that’s what!

SO MUCH STUFF

One thing that I knew about this adventure is that I need security.  I needed to know that when the year is up (or when we get tired of it), that I have a home to go back to.  It’s why we didn’t sell our house.  It’s why I am still working (well that, and like, needing money and stuff).  And it’s why we put our things into storage instead of pawning them off.  I think it was my only condition for agreeing to go on this trip actually.  The thought of coming back and having to start from scratch freaked me out considering that we weren’t (still aren’t) necessarily sure this life is for us.

Anyway, when StoreSmart asked if we had anything lined up for our storage needs, I jumped at the offer they gave us of using them.

THANK YOU STORE SMART

As an insurance broker myself, I knew it needed to meet all the security requirements for my insurance company to be happy.  And StoreSmart meet those needs and then some – it’s access controlled, secure and well maintained.  It literally checks all the boxes.  What’s also cool is that their storage units come in different sizes.  So if you are wanting to get a little unit to keep the extra things you don’t want in your home, or if you’re planning a big move like us, there’s something to suit everyone.

EMPTY UNIT AT STORE SMART – ABOUT TO GET FILLED RIGHT UP

But will it all fit?!

It’s the question that rolled around my mind as we loaded everything into our lounge to move.  It just looked like SO much.  I packed a heck of a lot of boxes.  The people at the packing end of our local Pick n Pay basically knew Seth by name.  Surely it was too much to fit into a garage type space.  Thankfully the movers that we used performed magic and wizardry and got it all to fit into their van.  Then they helped us play a real life game of tetris to get all the goods into the unit…

AND IT ALL FITS with room to spare!  Woohoo!!

GREAT SUCCESS

We are so thankful to StoreSmart for looking after our stuff for us.  I know it’s in good hands while we are out exploring everything that South Africa has to offer!!

We Left Cape Town - Eventually - 3 Kids, 2 Dogs and 1 Old House 25 July 2018 at 2:36 PM

[…] we needed to change it into our name were safely in a special folder.  That was safely stored in our secure unit at StoreSmart.  Flip!  I was gutted.  I mean what are the chances that we’d even be able to find it […]

[…] I probably don’t have to tell you this, but moving lives of 5 people into storage before cramming what’s left into a van to travel around Southern Africa isn’t what […]
