I’m (Going To Be) A Mom With Tattoos – Christine From Flat White Concepts

Welcome back to another installment in our new series – I’m A Mom With Tattoos.  In case you have missed the last couple, don’t forget to check them out here.

What a week.  Isn’t it funny how you can declare your knowledge and belief that “this too shall pass” and then in the very next second you totally get tested on that?  The very same day that I did that post my Dad was taken by ambulance to ICU to be treated for pneumonia.  A terrible condition in an of itself, but severely compounded by his disability caused by Muscular Dystrophy.  At the moment it’s to early to tell what’s happening but everyone seems positive which is good.

As you know my rule of being a Mom already (in order to be part of the series) is more of a guideline, but that’s OK because it’s my blog and who needs rules on a blog anyway?!  Today we get to meet Christine  who just so happens to have a free online magazine all about coffee – talk about a match made in heaven!  I drink coffee, she writes about coffee…  Anyway.  This months issue is oozing with crafty goodness and if that’s your thing, you should totally go and check it out.  Now go and grab your, ahem, coffee and let’s get started!
Your name and blog deets: Christine Bernard, The Flat White Blog also on Twitter and Facebook.
Your age: 31
Your Occupation: Magazine Owner and Editor, Graphic Designer

A Mom’s favourite thing to do is talk about their children – tell us about your family: I absolutely love my family. At the moment it is myself, my gorgeous husband, Warren, and the cutest little Guinea Pig in the world, Smudge. No kids as of yet, but we’ll definitely be starting a family in the next year or two. I’m very family orientated so I cannot wait to have a child. For now though Smudge is my kid. A rather furry one at that.
If you work, tell us a bit more about your working environment – are you regularly in contact with new “clients/public”. I work for myself from home, however I try meet up with clients on a regular basis as well as attend networking events each month.
Tell us a bit about your tattoo’s, what they are, why you have them, where they are located:

I have an owl on my shoulder. I have always called my mom an owl because she’s the wisest person I know. The owl symbolises that she is always looking out for me.
How old were you when you got your first tattoo: I got my first tattoo when I was 18. It was a goblin and at the time I loved it. Last year though I decided it didn’t suit me anymore so I had it covered up with the owl.
Do you plan on getting more? I only have one tattoo at the moment, but I’m definitely planning on getting more. I’m waiting until I’m completely sure about what I want but I definitely have a lot of ideas brewing. I’m going to the Tattoo Cape Convention soon so I’m sure I’ll be signing up to get something done very soon!
How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? My parents were very supportive although I don’t think they’d be too keen on me getting many more. At the moment my tattoo is easily covered up so I’m not sure what the reaction would be if I had something more visible. My next tattoo I definitely want to be something that others see immediately. I love the one on my shoulder but I often forget it’s even there. My friends all love tattoos, most of them have at least one. Some are covered with them. Others don’t have any but they have never said anything negative.
What is the general reaction that “the Public” have towards your tattoos?  Have you run into any negativity or adversity because of them?  Oh sure. My goblin, which I thought was cute, was often called devil like! I’ve been told it’s not lady like, I’ve been told it’s something I will regret, etc etc. Luckily I’m in the creative industry so it’s never really been an issue but I know a lot of people that won’t get tattoos because of the stigma attached to it.
Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed? Don’t listen to anyone! A tattoo is a personal choice. So whether you want something hugely symbolic or you just want something because you like the way it looks then just go for it. Brush off the criticism. As long as you like it that is all that matters. We only live once, so make it count. Who cares if you don’t like it in ten years time, if anything it will make a cool story. I absolutely love tattooed people. I feel that they are not afraid to be themselves.
And as usual, if you’re a Mom who wants to share your tattoo story, please in touch with me cindyalfino(at)gmail.com

I love that owl. If I was younger and I had seen that owl, I might very well have decided to get a tattoo – except the thought of the pain involved would probably have zapped that idea in the bud!

Sorry Cindy, forgot to ask after your Dad. Hope he is recovering. So sorry to hear that he has MS and is in hospital with pneumonia. (((HUGS))) From someone with a chronic illness to another – much love!
