Do you have a sacred day of the week where you just chill as a family?
For us that’s a Friday. I don’t know when it started exactly but slowly our Fridays became special. Like really special. Like look forward to it all week special. For the kids it’s special because it’s treat Friday, so they get to eat whatever they want for supper and watch a new movie. No fighting about eating all their broccoli. I obvs enjoy that, but for me it’s special because I savour this time being snuggled up together without any other distractions.

But then a couple weeks ago we’d had a hectic Friday. I didn’t have the time or the energy to get out to buy the usual Friday night treats. Plus I didn’t have make up on, so we all know that means I’m not leaving the house again no matter what. Seth was working late and it just wasn’t going to work out. So he ordered some burgers and chips through some delivery system or other on his way home.
By the time the food came I was ravenous. The kids had been fighting because they were equally starving and likely to eat each other any minute. My mood wasn’t great to start off with, but then I opened up my meal and it was cold. I had a mountain of cold, pasty chips. Ugh!
Do you know what my absolute favourite food in the world is? Potatoes. In any form, but specifically chips. It’s the part of the meal I look forward to the most.
Do you know what the worst thing in the world is? Cold chips. Especially chips that were hot and steamy, then got cold in their little container. They just start tasting weird. It makes me so sad. And angry. Man I was miffed that I had to eat these icky chips. It ruined our Treat Friday. And my mood.
But I’ve decided that I’m not going to let disappointing service and cold chips ruin our Friday night traditions. Oh no. I take that as a personal assault and I’m going to fix it. It will not get the better of me. I will defeat this. Take that enemies of Treat Friday – you will not win this!
So say hello to my little friend, the McCain Skinny French Fries…
What a time to be working with McCain. I mean seriously – it’s like they had a fly on the wall when I had to force all those soggy chips down my throat.
We won’t be having any more pasty cold chips in our home. Not with these babies – they take literally 3 minutes to fry in hot oil and the best part is that you can eat them immediately! While they are still fresh, hot and delicious! They are the perfect side to any meal. And in our case they were the perfect side for our burgers.
Yum.
Please excuse my tired eyes and messy lounge – real life yo. It’s been a long, long week.
This month I was in charge of using the McCain chips to make a really hot, fresh and yummy dinner for my fam. But next month they are going to have a go at tackling our Treat Friday meal. Riya already has big plans on what she is going to make with the other options we bought. Scarily she mentioned sugar and spice so I’m already scared of what’s going to happen when I unleash them on the kitchen.
But overall I would say that my evening was a success – we had hot, tasty chips with our burgers and could settle in for a movie with full tummies and happiness.

Love the idea, Every now and again we make our own burger patties as well. Riley loves the feeling of the mince squishing between her fingers.
I have never tried the frying chips because i generally burn myself when it comes to hot oil, the oven baked chips are just as tasty 🙂
The thought of squishing the mince between my fingers makes me queasy but I’m a weirdo like that, I’ll eat it for days but touching it is something else haha. Maybe you have a little chef on your hands there!!
Oh I don’t do that part, gross… Ryan and Rugs do ??.
She is really starting to enjoy cooking, she has made us spaghetti and tonight chicken and pasta looking forward to tasting it ?
Sounds lekker! I can’t wait for our girls to start cooking!!
Frozen skinny fries are legit! tastes just like McDonald’s fries and you do not have to have a huge amount of oil in the pan. You can shallow fry them – same result
YES!! It’s great! Although I’m not a skinny fry fan as much as I am a slap chip fan, I can’t wait to try those ones!
We have movie night on Friday night – we take out the blow up mattress (which now just permanently stays blown up, haha), a 3/4 one, but we put it up against the couch so we can all sit together on it. I must admit that I’m not a chip fan (except for Steers chips that can make me go mental!!!!) but my kids LOVE chips and for me, it’s always McCain, I think they’re the best. The kids enjoy the skinny ones but I love the slap chips 🙂
I love that whole blow up mattress vibe! We did the same thing for a while with it constantly blown up until the little buggers popped it somehow, or the dogs did, either way it ended badly. I can’t wait to try the slap chip ones! Those are may fave too!
Just want to say how much I enjoy even your sponsored posts! Sponsored posts annoy the hell out of me with most other bloggers, especially the random ones that don’t seem to have anything to do with their normal posts. But your ones still include real family life stuff!
P.S. Friday treat night is a thing in our family too, but in my case it involves a glass of wine 😉
Yay – thank you so much for saying that! I really try hard to make our sponsored posts still feel like a normal post and like it would be something we would be doing anyway (which is the only kind of sponsored content I take on anyway) but it is really great to hear you say that!!
[…] guys remember a couple of weeks ago when I told you I was taking Friday nights back? I was NOT joking. Like I would ever give up an opportunity to get out of making supper!! […]
