A Dunk In The Canal

water and toes

What is it with kids and water?

Recently we went to a friends party out in Mowbray at a park that is apparently called, “The Tractor Park” because, wait for it… There is a big yellow tractor there.  Incredible isn’t it?  I really just can’t imagine how they thought up the name.  And please remember, it should not be confused with the “Train Park” in Claremont, with the big train, because well, trains and tractors are different.  Even though my first instinct was to go off to Claremont haha.

Also, what is it with Cape Townians and naming things?  I thought we were supposed to be artsy, creative people?

Anyway, what I really want to know is why kids are drawn to water like uh, kids to water?  Is there any stronger pull?  I doubt it.  Unless you count the one that pulls me to the Nik Naks I’ve been hiding in the cupboard, which obvious trumps them all considering that I no longer have any Nik Naks in my cupboard.

Back to the story.  There was a massive beautiful park with a huge tree swing, a tractor and so much to do, but obviously with a big canal just next to it you can imagine where we spent most of our time.  But they LOVED it!  We spotted a crab (that met a bit of an untimely, accidental death), spiders and a wealth of discarded junk – socks, someone’s spectacles, CD’s, shoes and so much more.  They were basically treasure hunters of all things disgusting and they couldn’t have had more fun.

Who knew that a little visit to the canal could be so exciting?  I certainly didn’t, but I know where I’m going to be spending some afternoons when it warms up again.

Eventually when it was time to leave we piled three sopping wet little people into the car and headed on home.  It was a lovely party and I’m sad that I didn’t get a picture of the cake – it was amazing!

Side note: I’m trying to get back into taking pictures again and it’s been so much fun.  But missed probably the most epic picture of the kids taking off their boots and pouring all the water that had collected in them!

Oh yes. My children are also totally drawn to water. Jumping in puddles, any body of water, bathing. They go gaga over it. But just leet me pour a glass of water for them to drink…..

Lovely photos and it’s always fun for us too, knowing our children and having the best time.
