A Night In Scarbru, I Mean Scarborough

Last week Friday we kissed our kids goodbye, jumped into our car and raced towards the Scarborough sunset.

And then we stopped racing and kind of just puttered along slowly for a really long time, because we were in peak Cape Town traffic.  Oh my word!  Why is it so bad?  Anyway.  We’d packed our boardies and plakkies, grabbed some brewskies and were excited to be celebrating Simon’s birthday with a night away from all responsibility.  Not even traffic could put a damper on that.

We spent the rest of the evening indulging in delicious bunless burgers, copious amounts of chocolate and lots of laughs.  It was definitely a night to remember.

I know I sort of harp on the topic of friendship on the regular.  But I’ve realised how important it is to cultivate these relationships as we grow older and how easy it is to lose touch.  When you’re at school and you get to see your friends every day, it’s really easy to stay friends.  But when you have kids and you no longer have a life of your own, it’s hard to make the time.  It’s kind of like a marriage actually – you really have to work at it.

Being able to socialise with someone other than your spouse is pretty important actually.  Well, it is for me anyway.

So, I’m really grateful to call these guys friends.  I’m even more grateful that having kids has brought us even closer together over the years.  It’s really special when you can completely and totally be yourselves around other people without the fear of judgement of any kind.  Being able to chat about everything and anything under the sun.  Liberating.

Thank you Simon and Claudette for a super night away and for spoiling us with your company.  And to the Delport’s who we now know better than most 😉

A few memories of a great night chatting until the dark hours of the morning.

What I love about this next picture is that Seth was posing like this with absolutely NO IDEA that Simon was doing what he was doing!

Mikey and I are also on those friendship vibes – it is so important to work at those relationships. Totally agree with you. Lord knows, as parents, you feel like you hit the freaking jackpot when you have friends who as married couples, EVERYONE enjoys each other, AND your kids get along awesomely. But we’re finding it more and more difficult as life goes on, even when we said we’re going to make a conscious effort.

It really is so hard to make the time! There are always so many other things happening. Ugh
