The Holidays… Are Over!

Here are some of the highlights from our holidays that haven’t really featured as their own post, and now that I am back at work (today was the first day back) it’s fitting that we remember these moments.

Potty Training Is a Myth…  And I Kinda Hate You A Little If You Tell Me How Easy It Is…

Oh my freaking word….  So for a whole morning we had been walking in to the girls room and smelling a weird wee smell.  I put it down to a random nappy that had reloacted itself to the underside of the bed or something… Yes, it happens…  Don’t judge me…  But I checked and checked and nothing.  Then I went to pack clothes into their cupboard and realised that my foot was wet…  Ugh!!!!!  Shudder, shudder, shudder…  Just thinking about it makes me want to wash my foot again…  So anyway, I had stood on a wet sock, soaked to the point of turning the floor white (it’s dark parquet floors so the contrast made for an extra effect for my already over stimulated gross sensors), and yes, it was soaked with wee!  My first thought is that it just has to be a random animal that got in and tried to make a nest, you know – like a cat would do.  Yes, cats make nests and totally wee in them first…  Ja.  Who needs the Discovery Channel.  Then it dawned on me that it’s probably not a cat and it is probably one of my children…  GASP!  So quickly I did the math in my head, Ri was with me last night and all morning since and she doesn’t know how to take her nappy off – can’t be her – CHECK.  Next…  Kyla…  Hmmm, yip that is totally possible…  “Kyla did you wee in the corner here?”  – “No, Row Row“…  “Really, Riya did it?” – “Yes“…  “Really Kyla?  Riya wee’d here?” – “No, me…  Kylie” – and then she still had the audacity to look proud of herself….  So there you have it, she did it.  When I asked her when she did it, she said while Dada dudu.  Unbelievable.

Oh and did I mention that she so lovingly covered it with all of her shoes from the cupboard before walking away and leaving to stink and fester for the rest of the day…  Ja…

Children Can Make You Crazy…

The mantra “I love my children, I love my children, I love my children” has gone through my head about 100 times in the last week…  If you want my honest opinion, I am pretty proud of myself that I have made it this far into the holiday (a whole 2 weeks) before this thought really had taken hold of my brain.  When they bash each other in the brain, “I love my children, I love my children, I love my children“, when they bite each other and then try and beat the snot out each other in revenge, “I love my children, I love my children, I love my children“…   When I slave away and try and make them an awesome meal and they throw it on the floor or mash it into the table, “I love my children, I love my children, I love my children” (Can you tell that that last one is through clenched teeth?!)…  But now really, before you take this the wrong way, because I know some of you non parentals out there will be all like, “Say what?  How dare she get mad at her children – call the Childline and free them from their dreadful life of fake love” – what?  You weren’t thinking that?  Don’t lie, I know you were…  So anyway…  I really do love my kids, like really I do.  No really!  But I don’t love the way they seem to be fighting all the time.  It’s insane!  Non.  Stop.  Even when Ri is sleeping then Kyla is all miserable cos she misses being with Ri, then as soon as Ri awakes then it starts again – most of the time this is even before Ri gets out of the cot!  I will just say though that the only thing keeping me going is the insanely, enjoyably, funny and gorgeous moments inbetween…  Where they have sweet conversations, play and give each other kisses – that cannot ever happen enough and totally makes up for all of the craziness.

When I originally wrote this I guess I was just exhausted – it’s amazing what one morning’s worth of a sleep in does – I feel like a new person, and thankfully one who really says I love my children because I do and not to remind myself – sjoe!

Hope all of you lovelies are having a fab holiday or that work isn’t to crap.
