Babylonstoren

OK, so here’s what I thought I knew about Babylonstoren…

It’s one of those places that you have on your hit list but you’re not really sure why, except that everyone and their cat has been there and rave about it.  From all of the pictures that litter social media, you have gathered that it’s a farm that you can go to out Stellenbosch side, it has two restaurants (Babel and The Greenhouse) and there are a couple of rows of cacti that you have to walk through and take the mandatory picture to prove that you’ve been there.

Sound familiar?

I don’t know how to tell you that it is SO much more than that, but I’m going to try.

We went with quite high expectations considering I didn’t do any homework on it before we arrived.  As it turns out, we spent a solid 3 hours there and the kids have declared it their favourite place and want to go back again as soon as possible. (If you want to look up more on Babylonstoren and what you can do there, here’s their website)

There is a cover charge when you enter but it’s worth it!  You get to spend as long as you want wandering around the gardens, soaking up the sun and having fun with the kids.  It’s a working farm with gardens that are growing the food that you will most likely be eating at Babel and the Greenhouse.  There’s a river walk, a massive swing and so many little secret gardens to go and explore.  If you want to, there are guided tours of the gardens where they explain uh, how they grow stuff I guess?  I never really looked into it because the kids would have started plotting a revolt, but if gardening is your thing, it would probably be worth checking out.

After about an hour of wandering we were getting thirsty but Babel was full, so we popped into the Greehouse and had a couple of farm fresh scones and coffee.  It was heavenly.

Then we went on exploring – found the cacti (which is actually a maze), some ducks, a couple of tree houses and I can’t even remember what else. We had such a good time, we’re looking forward to heading back out there again soon.

Here’s a few of the billion pictures we took while exploring Babylonstoren.

In case you’re wondering, the kids and I are dressed by Exact Clothing (everything except for Riya and Knox’s jackets)
