Out With The Old And In With The NEW!!

Ciao!  Guess whose back?  It’s me and not only do I have a whole new outlook on life but our blog has a brand new look too! Watcha think?

I know some of you awesome people may have already received a newsletter from me this morning that might have been a little confusing.  Not to worry, Andrea and I were just so excited to share this new space with you that we got a little ahead of ourselves.  But you’ll forgive me for being like ridiculously excited right?  Right!

Let’s back up a little.

This little spot on the interwebs has come a very long way.  We can throw back to 2010 when we started and it was called “3 Girls, 2 Dogs and 1 Guy”.  Weird huh?  It just doesn’t roll off the tongue the same way as our seriously long current name does.  But then we had a Knox and we had to change it up and so in 2012, “3 Kids, 2 Dogs and 1 Old House” was born.

Seth painstakingly designed all my logo’s, drew all the cartoons and we both poured a lot of love and attention into the design.  The blog was still nothing more than a part time hobby.  A space to share, to remember and to connect.  Then around 2015 I decided it was time to “get serious” and I bought my own domain.  We said goodbye to alfinos.wordpress.com and said hello to what you probably all know as www.3Kids2DogsAnd1OldHouse.co.za.  It was a big step for me, buying that domain.  It meant that all the blood, sweat and tears that I was pouring into my blog on the daily was a little bit more serious.  No that’s not true.  But more legit.  Yes, that sounds better.

Which is all well and good right?  But after looking at the same limited website theme, with the same images that we’ve had for almost the last 7 years, I finally felt like it was time to really invest in this space.  To make it something that I loved to look at and hopefully, something that you will love to look at too.  A space that’s easy to navigate and one that just felt so much more like us.

Not only did I want a new brand image but I needed a new website layout.  No more relying on my clever husband to help me try and figure it out, I needed to call in the big guns.

For a very long time I had admired my friend Andrea’s work as she helped bloggers all over the web as her business Bird & Design.  I felt like we had a kindred spirit in the styles we liked and I felt like she would just be able to get me and what I wanted for this space and I was not wrong.  We went through a little process of things I loved and hated, back and forth on design and ended up with the most beautiful site on the internet (sorry guys, let me just be conceited for one day OK?).

So welcome to my new online couch.  A brand spanking new couch that still feels like the cuddly, old, comfortable couch you had to get rid off.  One that you can curl up onto with a blanket and feel at home on.  One that we will tell stories on, share the up’s and down’s of parenting on and just generally explore from.
