Daughter Dates Are My Favourite!

Quite a few months ago now, I took Kyla on her very first date.  It was an impromptu thing that was just so magical that sparked a quest to do the same with the other two.  In fact, I didn’t really have an option because Riya insisted that we set a date immediately.  So in the diary it was.  Because if it doesn’t go into the diary, it won’t happen!

I told her that she could go ANYWHERE she wanted in the World (that was within a 30 minute drive).  She chose a local restaurant down the road from our home which worked out perfectly.  Her only real requirement is that it had to serve pizza and dessert, so that was pretty easy.

We spent the evening laughing like crazy.  She really is a funny little sausage and I enjoy her company.  At one point I thanked her for spending the evening with me, to which she responded, “It’s your pleasure” haha.  It’s funny how differently the two evenings played out.  While they were similar in some sense, they were also totally unique.  Which just reaffirms the fact that all three of our kids are individuals who need their own kind of attention from us as parents.  ( And yes, in our normal day to day this is really hard to achieve).

This little date came in the midst of a lot of things happening for the other two, so it was really special to have that time to just focus on her and her thoughts.  It’s not often that we get this kind of time to connect and it really was so great.  I could see that she really appreciated it and thrived on the undivided attention.

As she had an entire adult pizza and we shared a massive slice of cheesecake when we got home she was coming off a crazy sugar high.  Which for her means that she really struggles to keep her emotions in check.  I had felt a bit sad at the end of the date because although I could see that she had enjoyed herself, she hadn’t said anything.  Then in the middle of a bit of a wobbly, she shouted, ‘I just love having that date with you Mom and I love you!”.  So that was my day made.

Seth and I recently visited Col’Cacchio again (without our kids) and spent the evening treating ourselves to the most delicious food.  We started with a Boriso salad and then followed it up with a pizza and a meatball dish.  We washed it all down with their house Italian white wine which was honestly so good it took me right back to sitting at a caffe next to the canals in Venice.  (How pretentious does that sound?  But it’s true).
